Michael Coudreaut grew up in New York’s Hudson Highlands, surrounded by the rich history of the Hudson Valley and the American Revolution. At the age of seven, his family moved in with his grandmother, an avid family historian whose passion for genealogy sparked his own fascination with the past. When Michael was thirteen, she showed him the obituary of his sixth great-grandmother, Phebe Brinkerhoff. Intrigued by the remarkable glimpses of her life, he began researching her family and the Revolutionary War era in which she lived. Years of meticulous research into historical records, family documents, maps, and local history inspired Phebe’s War, a novel that brings Phebe’s extraordinary story to life for a new generation of readers.

Michael graduated from Columbia College in New York City and Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, then moved across the country to study psychiatry at UCLA. He served in the United States Air Force as a psychiatrist at Hill Air Force Base in Utah and now practices Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry in Salt Lake City. He is married to Kimberly Coudreaut and has two children, Curtis and Tillie.
